Hotel Transylvania: How Old Every Main Character Is

The Sony franchise has many monsters and humans alike as main characters, and their ages, although mentioned, are not that easily knowable.

Given the varied cast, it isn't always easy to tell how old every main character is in the Hotel Transylvania franchise. Hotel Transylvania 4, the latest installation in the series, was finally released on Amazon Prime Video on January 14, after many changes to the theatrical release date brought the adventure animated movie to release exclusively on Amazon’s streaming platform. As the fourth and final movie in the saga, Hotel Transylvania 4 introduces some new characters while also building on the stories of the old.

Over the four movies, viewers have seen the central core characters mature a lot, including the series' protagonist, Dracula (Adam Sandler in the first three, Brian Hull in Hotel Transylvania 4). The over 500-year-old vampire went from hating humans as they killed his wife to not only fully accepting his human son-in-law Johnny (Andy Samberg) but also opening his hotel to them, which he had built precisely to shield his daughter Mavis (Selena Gomez) from humans. Dracula’s relationship with humans developed so much that he even left his own hotel to Johnny, along with Mavis, at the end of Hotel Transylvania 4.

The Hotel Transylvania franchise saw most main characters come back for every movie, with some even having the chance to be more in the spotlight from the second installment onward. Hotel Transylvania 2 also saw another character added to the franchise core central characters, Dennis (Asher Blinkoff), the human-vampire son of Mavis and Johnny. Apart from Dennis and Johnny, who age in human years, all other main characters are quite old, ranging from the youngest who have recently passed the 100-year benchmark to those who had been around for at least 5000 years in Hotel Transylvania 4. Here’s how old every main character is in Hotel Transylvania and its sequels.

Dracula

Before Hotel Transylvania 3 was released, Dracula was referred to as a 545-year-old vampire. Based on other characters’ age, eight years should have passed between Hotel Transylvania and Hotel Transylvania 3 and 4, making Dracula 537-year-old in the first movie. However, this would clash with Dracula’s rumored birth in 1473, as he would have to be 535-year-old in the first installment and 547-year-old in Hotel Transylvania 3 and 4 rather than 545-year-old, making an age between the last two the most accurate estimate.

Mavis

Mavis’s age is one of the easiest to know, as her year of birth was reported in Hotel Transylvania. Indeed, the first installation specified both that she was born around 1895 when Dracula started planning the hotel and that she was 118 in it. Hotel Transylvania 4 started with the 125th hotel anniversary being celebrated, making the age of Selena Gomez’s Mavis in the latest movie 125 or 126 years old.

Johnny

Johnny’s age is another one easy to know. Johnny said he was 121 in Hotel Transylvania when he was forced to hide his being human, making him 21. He was also confirmed to be 29-year-old in Hotel Transylvania 3, therefore making that his age also in Hotel Transylvania 4.

Dennis

Dennis first appeared in Hotel Transylvania 2. In the movie, the first five years of his life were chronicled, as Dracula was hoping he would be a vampire, and vampires were supposed to get fangs at around five years of age. This would make Dennis 5-year-old in Hotel Transylvania 3 and 4.

Frankenstein

Frankenstein, along with most of Dracula’s friends, never specified his age. From Dracula’s words in Hotel Transylvania 2, though, they should be contemporaries, as the vampire stated they used to roam the forest of Slobozia in their 100s. This would make Frankenstein between 400 and 500-year-old.

Wayne The Werewolf

Similarly to Frankenstein, Wayne prowled the same forest with Dracula. Nevertheless, his age was never mentioned in any of the franchise’s movies. This would make Wayne around 400 and 500-year-old.

Murray The Mummy

Murray is the only one of Dracula’s friends whose age is mentioned. In Transylvania 4, he commented on “his 5000-year-old skin,” making him 5000-year-old in the movie. This would also mean he was 4992 years old in Hotel Transylvania.

Griffin The Invisible Man

The invisible man’s age was never specified in any Hotel Transylvania movie. Being a monster like Wayne and Frankenstein, though, Griffin too prowled the forest of Slobozia in his 100s. This would make his age close to Dracula and the other friends, making him around 400 and 500-year-old.

Blobby

According to Hotel Transylvania 3’s flashbacks, Blobby is one of the latest additions. He did not confront Van Helsing with his other friends in 1897, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he didn’t exist yet. Blobby’s age is never referred to in any Hotel Transylvania movie, making it unknown.
